181th Entry

Day 2 - 1 Day City Tour

1st stop - YehLiu Geopark

Yehliu is a cape of about 1,700 meters long, formed by northern Taiwan's Datun Mountain reaching into the sea. When overlooked from above, the place is like a giant turtle submerging into the sea. Thus, it is also called "Yehliu Turtle".

Because the rock layer of seashore around Yehliu area contains sandstone of limestone texture, and because the area is subject to sea erosion, weathering and earth movements, there is fascinating scenery consisting of sea trenches and holes, candle shaped rocks, and pot shaped rocks.

The whole Yehliu area is divided into three sections. The first section has rock formations in the shapes of Queen's Head, Fairy's Shoe and Candle. The second section has rocks that look like Bean Curd and Dragon Head. The third section has sea-eroded caves and seal shaped rocks.

I realised none of us took the picture of The Queen's Head rock so went to search for it online. Here it is...

More pictures of its famous eroded rock formations...

Between the parking lot and the entrance to the park were stalls selling dried fish and seafood and many other souvenirs etc.

2nd stop - Chiufen

The name Chiufen comes from a legend where nine families used to live in this village. Before the development of Chiufen, there was a lack of transportation that made trips to the market inconvenient. Therefore, whenever one family goes grocery shopping at the market, what they bought would be divided it into nine pieces for each of the families. “Nine pieces” in Chinese is called “Chiufen”, and this is where the village name came from.

We headed to this shop for lunch which sells nice ru rou fan and different varieties of fishballs.

The man on the left is our tour guide of the day and he called us liu qian jing = 6 princess. Firstly, because we were the only teenagers in the grp. Secondly, we were always caught by him whenever we were the last to gather. awW~ That's how liu qian jing came about.

The street was so narrow and we constantly had to look out for motor vehicles! Very annoying and it was even worse at Wu Fen Pu where it was more crowded and there was a truck trying to squeeze its way through. ZzzZzz!

We tried the yu (yam) yuan which didn't taste very nice. Was abit tasteless. =\

Chiufen village used to be the center of gold mining. This small village is located within the hills, next to the mountains and facing the ocean. Due to its special location, Chiufen village is well known for its foggy weather condition that creates a romantic atmosphere.

3rd stop - Cultural Center: Nothing much. Trying to sell those honey stuffs and herbs which are good for your health. Mentioned alot of well-known ppl.

4th stop - Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall: Jump, JUmp, JUMp, JUMP!

5th stop - Martyr Shrine: To view an elaborate ceremony of changing guards hourly.

6th stop - Arts & Craft Center where the staff told us some fortune telling stuffs etc. No photos taken there.

7th stop - Sa Mao Shan Wen Quan where we had our first sulphur hotsprings! Nice experience soaking in abt 45degree of sulphur water for abt 30mins+/-? (:

Last stop of the day! - Shihlin Night Market. Eat EAt EAT, shop and did manicure! It was a pity that we didn't eat shaved ice in this 5 days 4 nights trip. Haiii.

*MUST TRY ALL!*

Cheap Cheap hp pouches! Even went back on Day 4 and we bought 36 pouches in total if i didn't rmb wrgly!

These candies are cheaper than those in Chiufen!

Jiat Ping's favourite! S.H.E! :)

The pedicure was so long because there was only 1 person attending to the 6 of us. Thus, some of us decided not to go for it and headed to more shopping at the nearby street.

That's all for Day 2! :D
